A Brief Overview of Zaatar
Zaatar is a registered non-profit organization in Greece, set up to help refugees in Athens. Its key initiatives include:
- The Orange House
- A shelter (providing housing and food) for refugee women and their children
- A community day center that welcomes over 200 people a day to do their laundry, take a shower, get a hot meal, get legal advice and to interact with others
- A variety of classes including languages and computer skills, and activities to promote health and wellbeing
- Healthcare and integration service provision or referrals
- Mentoring network for LGBT refugees
- SIOPI, a programme to support refugees recently released from Greek prisons
