A Brief Overview of Zaatar


Zaatar is a registered non-profit organization in Greece, set up to help refugees in Athens. Its key initiatives include:

  • The Orange House
    • A shelter (providing housing and food) for refugee women and their children
    • A community day center┬áthat welcomes over 200 people a day to do their laundry, take a shower, get a hot meal, get legal advice and to interact with others
  • A variety of classes including languages and computer skills, and activities to promote health and wellbeing
  • Healthcare and integration service provision or referrals
  • Mentoring network for LGBT refugees
  • SIOPI, a programme to support refugees recently released from Greek prisons
