Breastfeeding could prevent 800 000 deaths per year (The Lancet). It is a cheap, convenient, hygienic, and readily available food source for children. Even for the mother, breastfeeding reduces risks of postpartum depression, bleeding and infections but also breast and ovarian cancers. The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF have been promoting breastfeeding for years. Choosing breastfeeding over giving formula makes a big difference for the baby as well. Being breastfed lowers the risks of cancer, obesity, diarrhoea, asthma, allergies. It prevents the risks of malnutrition, diseases and premature deaths.
Our work - we have collected pumps and bags to donate/lend to women who need it - we are preparing a campaign and promotional flyers to be shared widely in Greece - we have contacted journalists and festivals' organizers in order to participate and share information on breastfeeding's benefits - we have already collected and donated 12 liters of breast milk to the milk bank.
